MORE LOCAL FLAVOUR AND CREATIVE DANCING IN POP UP PARTY SEASON 2! - 4aKid

Iconic locations and creatively explosive dance challenges add more fun to the new season of Cartoon Network Africa’s Pop Up Party.

Cartoon Network’s Pop Up Party production team has been working hard behind the scenes to bring Africa a more colourful, vibrant and energetic dance show this year, so, prepare to be dazzled, hyped up and excited by the new season of Pop Up Party.

Pop Up Party season 2 features 16 super-talented kids from different backgrounds in Cape Town – Khayelitsha, Fish Hoek and Milnerton and beyond – going head to head to express themselves through movement and dance. In each episode, the kids take part in a random music challenge – which sees the kids coming up with a dance to a randomly selected piece of specially composed local music which they have never heard before, chosen by the DJ. They then get to tackle the random dance challenge – which uses themes drawn from a pot such as the Dino Challenge, Vosho Challenge, Bollywood Challenge and DVD Challenge where the kids have to fast forward, rewind, pause and play!

Following the success of Pop Up Party season 1, the new season focuses on challenging kids through fun and positive challenges, against the backdrop of iconic locations in Cape Town.  Audiences can expect to be captivated by the kids sharing their passion for dance along the beautiful Sea Point promenade to Khayelitsha streets and through BoKaap’s quirky architecture!

“The launch of Pop Up Party season 2 as our latest African production will be a huge Cartoon Network summer event, with fresh content spread on air and on all our digital platforms. The show is essentially about creating spontaneous moments of fun and creativity, through music and dance. We have seen amazing energy and talent this season and are so excited to share this explosive live party with our Cartoon Network audience,” says Ariane Suveg, Programming Director and Head of Kids Content for Africa.

Self-taught dancer, now turned choreographer and founder of United Township Dancers, Mthuthuzeli ‘Stoan’ Galela, has played a significant role in making sure the kids – most of whom are his protégés from underprivileged backgrounds in and around Khayelitsha – put their best foot forward.

“As a dance teacher, I use dance to work on the kids’ self-esteem, and Pop Up Party has been a great confidence boost for these kids,” says Galela. “Dance is a powerful tool for kids to discover themselves and it is awesome to see them come alive on the dance floor doing what they love best!”
