Alle lewende wesens het slaap nodig. Slaap gee mense en alle lewende wesens die tyd vir die liggaam om te herstel en te herskep. Leeus benodig 16 tot 18 uur slaap, terwyl primate tien tot twaalf uur slaap. Mense het gemiddeld ses tot agt uur slaap nodig om te verjong. Menslike babas benodig 'n volle agt uur se slaap en slapies tussenin.
Die liggaam gebruik slaap as 'n manier om selle te herstel en die brein te verfris en algemene hulpmiddels in die ontwikkeling van ons liggaam, gees en gesondheid. Tydens ons slaap kan die menslike liggaam haarfollikels, vingernaels, toonnaels en selfs die buitenste bedekking van die vel regenereer. Dit gebeur as gevolg van die outomatiese vlieënier wat in ons liggame ingebou is. Mense is geneig om te dink dat die liggaam net nodig het om energie op die dag se werk te herlaai, maar in werklikheid werk die liggaam die herlewingsiklus baie vinniger wanneer die brein nie veel aksie beheer nie.
Babas het dus hul slaaptyd nodig om spiere, ledemate en skeletstruktuur te ontwikkel. Om 'n goeie nag se slaap vir jou baba te kry, is dit belangrik dat jou baba gemaklike en uitnodigende beddegoed het. Die geheim van 'n goeie bed is een wat net reg voel. Beddens wat te groot is, kan jou kleinding onseker laat voel. Jou baba se bed moet knus wees en sekuriteit bied sodat hulle 'n goeie nag slaap kan kry. Die keuse van die regte beddegoed moet ook 'n bekommernis wees. Die beddegoed moet maklik wees om aan te raak en knus te voel. Beddegoed wat te styf of selfs te donsig is, verlaag jou baba se gemaksvlak en verminder dus sy/haar slaaptyd. Ons wil hê ons babas moet hul beddens geniet en dit as 'n plek van sekuriteit beskou.
Probeer om jou baba se slaapervaring aangenaam te maak. Beddegoed moet uitnodigend wees vir die oog. Daar is vandag soveel wonderlike patrone en materiaal op die mark dat die keuse van die regte beddegoed nie te moeilik behoort te wees nie. Onthou dat jou baba genoeg rus nodig het om sy/haar groei en ontwikkeling te stimuleer en wanneer dit bereik word, kan jou baba sy volle potensiaal bereik.
