Ease your way through labour with a loving touch with Heavenly Labour Massage Oil!
When a woman is stressed, she releases adrenaline that counteracts the effects of oxytocin, the hormone that produces contractions during labour. Massage helps to release feel-good endorphins to assist with a natural birth experience.
Aromatherapy oils especially chosen for labour, can add significantly to the therapeutic benefits of birth massage. Women who are massaged by their partners, midwives, doulas or other support figures during labour, experience good pain relief and have even been shown to have shorter labours overall. Touch and massage also help a woman to relax and the more relaxed an expectant mom is the more efficient the labour will be!
The natural way
The calming and pain-relieving powers of touch for women during labour are well-known. As most midwives know, gentle massage at the time of labour will help to relax the mother, aid in the production of endorphins or “feel-good hormones”, relieve pain and promote healthy contractions.
Touch and massage are also reassuring and help the mother to feel safe and cared for – an important component of a happy, healthy birth, which also helps to prepare the mother for bonding with her baby.

Q & A: How to do birthing massage
I’m not an expert. How should labour massage be done?
You do not need to be an expert to massage the labouring mother during childbirth! Gentle rubbing of the abdomen and deeper massage of the lower back during contractions generally prove the most useful and effective technique – although each woman will have her own preferences during labour and should be encouraged to tell you what works best for them. Begin gently and allow the mother to be your best guide as to what she needs during her unique experience of labour.
Don’t neglect other areas such as the head, face, feet, shoulders and hands which can all become tense during labour. Muscles can be kneaded between the thumb and fingers. Massage strokes should be continuous, rhythmic, and definite, going from up to down and down to up without lifting the hands.
You can also talk to the mother or sing while you are massaging. However, maintain quiet peaceful sounds in order to enhance the relaxing effect. Feelgood Health’s Rocking Chair CD has a wonderful relaxing musical soundtrack that perfectly suits the birthing process and baby will be used to the music, making the Rocking Chair CD perfect to use to relax baby in the months to come!
