Barbie® and FlySafair Inspire Girls in the Aviation Industry in Africa
Barbie® and FlySafair are joining forces to encourage girls in South Africa to explore diverse careers in aviation. With Barbie's legacy of over 250 different job titles, the partnership aims to show that opportunities in aviation extend beyond traditional roles. Girls are encouraged to consider careers as engineers, pilots, air traffic controllers, airline managers, marketers, safety inspectors, and more.
Barbie has a rich history of breaking barriers across various careers, reinforcing the brand's commitment to inspiring the limitless potential in every girl. From becoming a nurse, ballerina, and flight attendant in 1961 to roles like surgeon, CEO, computer engineer, video game developer, Mars explorer, and robotics engineer in later years, Barbie has consistently championed diverse career choices for women.
As part of this initiative, girls are invited to engage with expert women at FlySafair through talks, demonstrations, and presentations. This exposure aims to inspire the next generation of engineers, pilots, and inspectors by providing insights into different aviation career fields.
Terusha Naidoo, Barbie Marketing Manager for South Africa, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, "By giving them an expert view of the various careers that are available to them within the aviation industry, we hope to spark their interest in a career that they might not have been introduced to previously."
