The "High-Speed Edition" die-cast reimagines one of the most luxurious vehicles of its time as a powerful land speed racer.
Mattel, Inc. has announced an exciting collaboration between Hot Wheels® and Aston Martin to develop the new Aston Martin DB4GT “High-Speed Edition” die-cast model. This partnership between two iconic automotive brands reimagines the classic DB4GT as a high-performance land speed racer, while preserving the elegant design that has made the DB4 one of the world’s most recognizable classic cars. After hundreds of concepts, sketches, and design meetings, Hot Wheels and Aston Martin are thrilled to release this 1:64 scale die-cast globally in October.
The design collaboration featured Aston Martin's Miles Nurnberger and Thomas Gilbert, alongside Craig Callum, Hot Wheels Design Manager. Together, they modified the classic DB4 by studying historic land speed racers to enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics and maximize speed. The transformation includes a more aggressive front splitter, a lowered roof, custom wheels, and a longer body—elements that aim to reduce wind resistance and increase performance on the track. The livery pays tribute to motorsports and the land speed racing tradition.
Craig Callum expressed his excitement, stating: “The juxtaposition between Aston Martin’s original sophistication and the bold, outlandish style of land speed cars results in an extraordinary die-cast, even by Hot Wheels standards.”
Aston Martin is renowned as one of the world’s most prestigious ultra-luxury performance brands. This collaboration adds a Hot Wheels twist to the iconic DB4GT, offering something legendary for collectors and fans of both brands.
For over 50 years, Hot Wheels has driven automotive design, bringing car culture to fans of all ages. Their ongoing collaborations with top industry brands continue to inspire collectors. Hot Wheels has been sharing Aston Martin models since 2005, recreating a total of 13 unique Aston Martin vehicles in 1:64 die-cast form.
Thomas Gilbert of Aston Martin commented: “Our goal was to reimagine the DB4GT through the lens of American car-modifying culture, which aligns with the Hot Wheels brand. The 'Bonneville' theme, inspired by land speed trials on the famous salt flats, became central to our design. Interestingly, our historian discovered that a DB4GT owner in the 1960s actually took their car to Bonneville to compete in speed trials, further solidifying this theme.”
The new Aston Martin DB4GT “High-Speed Edition” Hot Wheels die-cast will be available on-shelves at retailers worldwide starting this October.
