Ingredients

Vetkoek

  • 500g cake flour

  • 500g beef mince

Method

Make the Dough

Combine the flour, yeast, salt and sugar in a large bowl.

Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover and leave to rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling

Heat a little oil in a frying pan.

Cook the onion until softened.

Simmer for 15 minutes until thick and rich.

Season to taste and set aside.

Fry the Vetkoek

Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal portions.

Shape into balls and leave to rest for 10 minutes.

Heat oil in a deep pot.

Fry the dough balls in batches for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.

Drain on paper towel.

Assemble

Slice open each vetkoek and fill generously with the savoury mince.

Serve warm.
