Overnight oats are a quick, healthy and most importantly delicious way to ensure that you have breakfast ready to go as soon as you wake up
It’s as simple as adding oats, your favourite kind of milk or yoghurt and then getting creative with flavours. This budget-friendly breakfast ensures you stay fuller for longer and can, therefore, help with weight loss. It keeps for up to 5 days so you can also make it on a Sunday night and have breakfast for the week. Here are some of our favourite flavour combinations.
Basic Overnight Oats recipe
The overnight oats ratio 2:1 important if you want to get the consistency right
- 1/2 cup oats (don’t use instant as they are much smaller and will turn to liquid if soaked for too long)
- 1 cup milk of your choice
- A sprinkle of salt
- Mix in a jar or Tupperware and place in the fridge overnight.
Tips to get perfect overnight oats every time
- Overnight oats with Greek yoghurt: add a dollop of double-thick plain yoghurt to make it creamier
- Chia seeds take on the flavour of whatever they are combined with & add a pudding-like texture
- A drop of vanilla essence is always a good idea
- Add muesli or nuts in the morning for some crunch
- To make overnight oats vegan, use any nut milk, rice milk or coconut milk and skip the honey in favour of maple syrup or agave nectar
- Always stir again before serving
