Spicy Edamame with Sea Salt
This Spicy Edamame with Sea Salt is a quick and flavourful snack, perfect for any occasion. Steamed edamame beans are tossed with chili flakes and a touch of sea salt, creating a savoury, spicy bite that’s both healthy and satisfying.
Ingredients
- 2 cups edamame pods, fresh or frozen
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
- Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)
Instructions
Steam the Edamame
If using fresh edamame, rinse the pods thoroughly. If frozen, defrost slightly by rinsing under cool water. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the edamame pods. Steam or boil for 5–7 minutes, or until tender but still firm. Drain and pat dry.
Season the Edamame
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil or sesame oil over medium heat. Add the chili flakes, garlic powder, and black pepper, stirring gently for 30 seconds to release their aroma. Add the steamed edamame pods to the skillet and toss to coat them evenly with the spicy oil mixture. Cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently.
Finish with Sea Salt
Remove the skillet from the heat and sprinkle the edamame with sea salt. Toss once more to distribute the seasoning.
Serve
Transfer the spicy edamame to a serving bowl. Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side for an optional zesty kick.
